Babachir: FG postpones SGF, SSGs retreat
The Federal Government yesterday postponed indefinitely, this year’s annual retreat of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) with Secretaries to State Governments (SSGs) earlier slated for April 23 to 25 in Yola, Adamawa State.
This followed the suspension of the SGF, Babachir David Lawal, by President Muhammadu Buhari after his indictment by the Senate on contract fraud. He is also to be investigated by a presidential committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The Director Press in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Bolaji Adebiyi, said yesterday in a statement that a new date would be communicated to all participants and invited guests in due course.
Dana cancels flight after bird strike
Hundreds of Dana Air passengers were stranded yesterday at the domestic terminal two wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos when its Lagos-Port Harcourt flight had an air return as a result of a bird strike.
It was gathered that the plane which took off from MMA2 had not gone far when the pilot noticed a snag in the engine and decided to return to Lagos.
The aircraft, a Boeing MD 83, had a bird strike on an engine, leading to be temporal grounding, our correspondent gathered.
Officials on the spot however assured that the aircraft would depart as soon as the fault was fixed, just as the spokesman of the airline, Kingsley Ezenwa, said: “On April 21, one of our aircraft with registration number 5N-SRI operating our 11am flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt had an air return due to a bird strike during take-off from Lagos and our captain took a professional decision and returned to the Lagos airport.”
He said the passengers were transferred to another aircraft to ensure that their trips were not entirely disrupted.
