NIMASA helicopter abandoned in Lagos for 2 years
An Auguster AW 139 search and rescue helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency, (NIMASA), has been abandoned at the Nigerian Navy air-wing, Ojo in Lagos for over 2 years, Daily Trust has learnt. The helicopter which has a capacity of 10, was procured to boost maritime security.
Our correspondent learnt that since the aircraft developed a major fault, the management of NIMASA has not deployed any helicopter for aerial surveillance. Sources told our correspondent there is no record indicating that the agency intends to repair the aircraft soonest, since it entered an MoU with the Nigerian Air Force.
Efforts to speak with the agency’s Deputy Director, Public Relations, Isichei Osamgbi, proved abortive as his lines were switched off.
