Robbers seize motorcycles, cash in Abuja suburb raid

-

Armed robbers yesterday invaded Daki Biyu, a settlement in Abuja and snatched property, particularly motorcycles and cash from residents.

Daily Trust gathered from residents of Yan Lambu area of Daki Biyu that they awoke to the sound of gunfire between 2am and 3am on Friday.

Abdulsalam Gambo said he was sleeping when someone hit him.

“I awoke to a voice ordering me to bring my money. I was told to lie down. They said if I moved they would shoot me,” he said, adding that they collected N5,000 from him as well as his phone. They also went away with two motorcycles owned by his roommates.

A dry cleaner, Usman Yusuf, was also sleeping when he heard gunshots. The intruders kicked his door. While one of them stood watch with guns, about seven others marched in with machetes and packed many clothes.

The Head of Unguwan Yan Lambu, Usman Abubakar, told Daily Trust he called the police only when he thought it was safe to do so.

“We have had similar attacks by armed robbers twice, three weeks ago and about a year ago,” Abubakar said.

When contacted, the Life Camp Divisional Police Officer, DSP Danlami Yusuf, said by the time the police were contacted, the criminals were gone.

“They said they would give details of the property stolen, but we are yet to hear from them,” he said.
