APC denies sacking Kogi exco

The All Progressiv­es Congress (APC) has dismissed media reports that the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) in Kogi State had either been suspended or sacked.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, yesterday opposed calls for state police as a solution to insecurity in the country.

Addressing State House reporters, the senator argued that establishi­ng state police must be yesterday, said the action did not emanate from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party or any of its organs so empowered.

The party, which said the issues in Kogi State made it to empower a committee to undertake investigat­ions and make recommenda­tions, stated that the NWC had not been appropriat­ely briefed on the outcome of the confined to a specific aspect of the law.

Asked if he was opposed to state police, he answered in the affirmativ­e, saying, “Yes and I have my reasons. I am Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs and I have made a lot of research on the issue of state police and regional police. It was on before, there was a Wilson Commission in 1954 which committee’s work not to talk of taking any decision.

The party said officials of the APC led by its chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, remained the only recognized executive committee of the party in the state until an appropriat­e organ of the party is decided otherwise in accordance with the procedure laid down by the constituti­on.
