Boko Haram: NGO to transfer students

- Uthman Abubakar, Maiduguri Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

A Non-Governmental Organization, Complete Care and Aid Foundation, is to transfer students from schools in insurgency-troubled communities in Borno State to safer places across the country. The transfer will be done under a safe-schooling programme for victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing newsmen in Maiduguri, the president of the NGO, Barrister Aisha Wakil, the Country Director, Prince Lawal Soyode and other principal officers said the organization would also assist in providing seats and renovating dilapidated schools across the state.

Popularly called “Mama Boko Haram”, Barrister Aisha said under the programme, at least 500 students would be involved depending on the school fees.

With a N200 million grant it received last month from its international donors, the NGO is to also begin employing teachers and posting them to schools across Borno State to assist in expediting the development of primary and secondary education.

Hajj commission urges early registration

The Kogi State Hajj Commission has called on 2018 intending pilgrims in the state to register before the March 31 deadline set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Sheik Luqman Imam Abdullah, who made the call during a sensitisation tour of the three senatorial districts of the state, noted that the 2018 hajj exercise was constrained with inadequate time.

He said each intending pilgrim was expected to pay N1.54million pending the final decision of the hajj commission, adding that a part payment of N1million could also be made to hasten the registration process.
