Nigerian youngster, Nwatu to sign for Isreali premier league side

- David Ngobua

Ayoung Nigerian football player, Johnson Nwatu Onyeamachi is on the verge of signing for Bnei Sakhnin in the Isreali Premier League. The player was scouted for the club during a screening exercise conducted in Nigeria in September by an Isreali football coach and agent Mr. Ouda Nazih.

The exercise which was coordinated by a Nigerian football agent, Pastor Gideon Akambe was held in Sulejah, Sokoto and Jos.

Nwatu who came in from Lagos was one of the players picked at the Sulejah centre of the screening exercise.

The player who travelled to Isreal on Wednesday on the invitation of Bnei Sakhnin has since joined the team’s training camp and is said to have impressed officials of the club.

Akambe told Daily Trust on Saturday that barring last minute hitches, Nwatu will sign for the Isreali Premier League side.

The football agent who said he has been in touch with the player expressed confidence that in few days time, the deal would be signed and sealed.

“I can happily inform you that the fruits of the screening exercise we held in September are beginning to manifest.

“One of the players who was discovered in Sulejah is right now in Isreal where he is training with Bnei Sakhnin in the Isreali topflight.

“I am in touch with him and the coach who conducted the exercise in Nigeria. From all indications, he is going to sign.

“He arrived at the club on Wednesday and was asked to join the team right away.

“So far, he has impressed in training and we are optimistic that he would be signed,” he said.

Akambe also noted that Nigeria is blessed with talented football players who are in dire need of opportunities to play abroad.

He said before the end of the year, more players who were discovered by the Isreali coach would travel to Europe for trials in top European clubs.

Bnei Sakhnin is the most successful club among the Isreali Arab clubs in the country having won the state Cup in 2004.

A former Plateau United and Chippa United of South Africa player, George Akpabio also plays for the Isreali club.
