We never endorsed anyone – Ohanaeze

- Abbas Jimoh

Ohanaeze N’digbo has denied adopting any candidate for the 2019 presidential election.

Reacting to the reported endorsement of the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday in Enugu during a gathering of Igbo leaders, the group said it was yet to meet and decide on whom to support in the election.

The organisation in a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, dismissed reports on the gathering of the Igbo leaders in Enugu, and the endorsement of Atiku.

The group, although admitted that its President General, Chief John Nwodo, attended the Enugu meeting, it was not the position of Ohanaeze.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has not yet adopted any presidential candidate as some media houses recently reported. The visit of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to some Igbo leaders in Enugu was not facilitated by Ohanaeze N’digbo, though the president general and some chieftains of Ohanaeze Ndigbo were present.

“It was a town hall meeting organised by some friends and associates of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, his running mate and Ohanaeze leadership was invited. We are elated, however, by the promise of Atiku Abubakar to restructure Nigeria and address the visible marginalisation of Ndigbo in Nigeria.
