7 No place for failure in Customs - Ali

- Simon Echewofun Sunday

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd), has warned officers of the organization to take training seriously as those who fail courses would no longer be tolerated in the service.

Ali gave the charge yesterday at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja during the graduation ceremony of 80 senior and junior officers in the second batch of training for 2018.

Ali said: “If you attempt promotion three times and you don’t get through, that brings you to the end of your service, if for any reason you fail, there is no place for you in the customs.” He said officers who take more courses and get more credit would be better positioned for promotion.

The Commandant of the College, ACG David Chikan, said it was the first time the customs held a combined graduation.

Chikan said the 80 graduands had spent six months in the training. The Deputy Commandant of the college, Comptroller Adewale Adeniyi, said the courses were designed to create better managers and leaders in the service, supported by training staff from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna State.

Chikan conferred on the 40 senior course graduands the Passed Staff Course (PSC) while 40 others got Passed Junior Staff Course (PJSC).

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin who was represented by the Chief of Defence Civil Military Cooperation, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral PA Onaji, lauded the innovation to open the gateway to the highest peak of the officers’ careers.
