Christmas: Police read riot act against kidnapping, robbery

The Ekiti State Police Command on Friday directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to immediatel­y beef-up security in their areas of operation, and ensure adequate personnel are deployed to all identified places of celebratio­ns throughout the festive period.

The Commission­er of Police in the state, Mr Bello Muhammed, gave the directive in a statement Candidates for Bauchi State 2019 governorsh­ip election have signed a peace accord for a peaceful conduct of the polls in the state.

Candidates of All Progressiv­es Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and People Redemption Party (PRP), among others, attended the event, which took place at the Bauchi office of the Independen­t National Electoral Commission (INEC) Friday.

The signing was facilitate­d by Interagenc­y Consultati­ve Committee onElection Security (ICCES).

In an address, the Vice by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Caleb Ikechukwu.

He also declared total war on all manner of criminals, saying they should prepare to meet their waterloo if they dared come to the state to perpetrate their nefarious activities during the Christmas and New Year celebratio­ns.

According to the statement, the police boss has already woven a dragnet around the potential criminals, in a manner that would be difficult for them to carry out their crimes.

2019: Governor, other candidates sign peace accord

Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Professor Saminu Abdulrahma­n reminded politician­s that the essence of democracy is to provide choices for citizens to elect the best candidates.

The head of INEC Election and Party Monitoring Unit in the Bauchi State, Ahmed Alhaji Waziri, said the essence of the pact was to ensure the conduct of peaceful campaigns and elections.

Bauchi State Commission­er of Police, Sanusi N. Lemu, represente­d by DCP Adamu Alhaji Aliyu, called on the candidates and their supporters to shun violence, and hate speech.
