Dino to be arrested over attempted murder – Police
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), yesterday, said it was arresting Sen. Dino Melaye to answer to a case of attempted culpable homicide.
In a statement, police spokesman, DCP Jimoh Moshood, said Dino was to be questioned on the shooting of Police Sergeant Danjuma Saliu while on duty by Dino and some armed thugs in Kogi State on July 19, 2018.
DCP Moshood said, “The police operatives currently in the residence of Sen. Dino Melaye are to effect his arrest to answer to the case of attempted culpable homicide on the shooting of a police officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to the 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stopand-search point along the Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.
“The police officer is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and is still under intensive medical care.”
He said police investigators wrote to the Clerk of the National Assembly for Sen. Dino Melaye to report at the Kogi State Police Command, Lokoja, to answer to the offences against him under investigation but that he refused.
He added that the police operatives would continue to be in wait at the residence of Sen. Melaye until he surrendered himself for arrest, pointing out that the offence for which Sen. Melaye was being investigated was capital in nature and not compoundable.
Policemen, in about five vehicles, arrived at the Abuja residence of Melaye at 12:30pm and later gained access into the senator’s house. They used two of the vehicles to block the gate of the senator’s house.
One of the policemen in mufti, who approached journalists, said they were there to arrest the Kogi senator.
At the time of filing this report at about 07:00pm, the policemen were still at Dino’s residence.
Dino told journalists through telephone that he was out of Abuja.
