How popular singer’s son was killed by Sara-Suka thugs in Bauchi
Suspected political thugs have killed a 19-year-old son of a prominent singer, Alhaji Dahiru Musa Jahun, over a stick in Bauchi. In his account of the incident, eldest brother of the deceased, Alhaji Bashiru Dahiru Musa Jahun, said his younger brother, Jamilu, was killed by Sara-Suka thugs when he went to watch a wedding ceremony in their area.
Jahun, who is a lecturer at the AD Rufa’i College for Legal and Islamic Studies, Misau, said from what was heard from eye witnesses, when late Jamilu was watching the ceremony together with many other spectators, he collected a stick from another youth who asked him to return it and he did.
But the youth made a strange noise and a group of Sara-Suka thugs who came from Gwallaga Ward arrived. Jamilu started crying that they would kill him and ran into a house. They followed him and stabbed him in the head and thigh with a machete and a knife. He lost so much blood before he was taken to the AbubakarTafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and a doctor certified him dead.
The family reported the matter to the police who took the corpse, examined and returned it for burial.
“We await the result of the police investigation and appeal to them to fish out the culprits and bring them to book so that it serves as a deterrent to others,” Juhun said, adding that “the recent killings by Sara-Suka thugs in Bauchi is worrisome and the government needs to do a lot to protect its innocent citizens. Thugs have made attacking people during ceremonies a habit.”
When contacted, spokesperson of Bauchi Police Command, DSP Kamal Abubakar, pledged to investigate the matter and make it public.
The activities of Sara-Suka thugs are one of the sore points that threaten the security of lives and property in Bauchi State and usually escalate during elections.
Worried by the menace, the Bauchi State Government signed a byelaw in 2008 banning all forms of thuggery in the state.
Recently, three people were killed separately by people under the influence of hard drugs. Also, two people were kidnapped in Rimin Zayam by gunmen.
A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) rehabilitated over 300 repentant Sara-Suka thugs in Bauchi recently.
