Mutilated body of missing woman, 36, found in residence
Residents of Asaba, Delta State, were jolted yesterday on the discovery of the mutilated body of 36-year-old Joy Obiageli, who had been declared missing a fortnight ago.
The decomposing body was exhumed at her residence in Government Residential Area (GRA) Asaba.
It was gathered that the deceased, an indigene of Ukwunzu, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, was reported missing by a family member on August 22.
Her security man, identified as Sunday, was arrested on August 26 with a Toyota Avalon Car belonging to her at Summit Road, Asaba after tips from concerned persons.
Briefing newsmen, the Deputy Commissioner, Operations (DC), Faleye Olaleye, said, “On 27 August, 2020, our patrol team intercepted a black Avalon car with a man named Sunday.
“But when they stopped him to search him, he could not certify the owner of the car so he was arrested and handed over to the DPO in GRA.
“He was questioned but he did not give any coherent answer to how he came in possession of the car and was subsequently detained.
“Shortly after, the brother to the deceased walked into the station to complain that his sister had been missing for the past 10 days. He then recognized and confirmed the vehicle to be for his missing sister.
“Then he was informed that a gentleman was arrested in possession of the vehicle after which he was obliged to see the man whom he identified as the security man of her residence.
He revealed that the security man did not confess to the crime until September 3, when he led a team of police investigators to the compound where the body of the deceased was discovered in a shallow grave.
He disclosed that the police also arrested the co-tenant, Nonso, for further interrogation on how the deceased was murdered and buried in the residence.
“Both suspects have been arrested and discovered where the corpse was buried and it has been exhumed and take to the mortuary” he added.
