- Muideen Olaniyi

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the incumbent governor of Ondo State and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu, will win the October 10 election fairly.

Buhari, who presented the party’s flag to the candidate at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, urged the APC to work diligently and ensure fairness in electoral processes, while returning Akeredolu for second term in office.

The president said the reconciliation process in the state branch of the party had provided a solid ground for an easier clear victory for the candidate than he achieved in his first term.

The president, who assured Akeredolu of the party’s full support in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said a peaceful and fair election that reflects the will of the people should be upper most.

He implored adherence to the regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Buhari said the party’s mechanism for resolving differences was most effective, and would be sustained to strengthen relationships, and project the objectives of the party as peoplefocused and development oriented.

The APC candidate was presented to the president by the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Mai Mala Buni, who is also the governor of Yobe State.

Speaking with State House reporters, the chairman of the APC Caretaker/ExtraOrdinary Convention Planning Committee, said President Buhari endorsed Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State’s re-election bid ahead of today’s flag-off of the his campaign. In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu said the APC would use all civil means to win the election.
