The making of the 58th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero

- From Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero is the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano and 58th in the history of the ancient city. He is from Sullubawa, a Fulani clan in Northern Nigeria, said to have originated from Futa-Toro, in what is known today as Senegal.

Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado, held several traditional titles before ascending the throne.

He was the Dan Majen Kano and District Head of Dala in 1990, a position he was given by his late father, Ado Bayero. He was promoted to the position of Dan Buram, the same year. In 1992, he was again promoted to the position of Turakin Kano, then to the position of Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida in 2000.

Emir Aminu Ado also served as the chairman of the Kano Emirate Durbar Committee in 2014. He was also promoted to the position of Wamban Kano by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and transferred from Dala to Kano municipal, where he succeeded late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim, as district head.

He was appointed Emir of Bichi in 2019 and later appointed as the Emir of Kano on March 9, 2020.

His appointment as the Emir of Kano was celebrated in the state, especially in the ancient city of Kano, because his father, though late, is held in very high esteem by the people of the ancient city, the state and nation generally. It is on record that even after his death, late Ado Bayero has not lost the respect he had while alive.

Late Ado Bayero was indeed loved by all, therefore, his son's ascension to the throne as the new Emir of Kano is regarded as consolation to his subjects.

Late Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero was the Emir of Kano between 1963 and 2014.

As the second son, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero is seen as an emir who is threading in the path of his late father. His simplicity and patience in all he does have earned him the love and admiration of the people of Kano State.

It was also reported that, while growing up Emir Aminu Ado was regarded as a potential successor of his father by many due to his leadership qualities.

It is also a known fact that even before ascending the throne, his supporters usually chanted, 'Sai ka yi' a Hausa phrase which can be translated thus; ‘You must inherit the throne after your father' and that came to pass with his ascension to the throne as the Emir of Kano in 2020.

Born in 1961, Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, attended Kofar Kudu Primary School and proceeded to Government College, Birnin Kudu. He also studied Mass Communication at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and later went to the Flying College, Oakland, California, in the United States of America (USA). He did his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Makurdi, Benue State.

It is also a known fact that even before ascending the throne, his supporters usually chanted, ‘Sai ka yi’ a Hausa phrase which can be translated thus; ‘You must inherit the throne after your father’ and that came to pass with his ascension to the throne as the Emir of Kano in 2020
