Should firefighters be armed?

Recently, the minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed the Federal Government’s resolve to create an arms-bearing unit in the Federal Fire Service to be referred to as Fire Police. Its duty would be to provide armed outer cordon during operations as part of efforts to address challenges faced by firefighting personnel during operations. According to him, some of the challenges include mob and vandalism of firefighting assets. Nigerians speak on whether it’s right for firefighters to carry arms.
