36 years after, FG hands over water project to Jigawa govt

- Mohammed Abubakar, Dutse

The federal government yesterday handed over the Kazaure Water Treatment Plant to Jigawa State government 36 years after the conception of the project.

Constructed at the cost of N3.8 billion, the 10-million-litres per day water plant is expected to serve the water needs of, at least, 500,000 families within Kazaure and its environs.

The project was conceived in 1984 during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari but suffered series of abandonment by successive governments before the jinx was broken by the same Buhari who initiated the project.

In his speech at the handover ceremony, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Husaini Adamu, described the event as a landmark in the history of the town, given the turbulent journey it had passed through.

He said he was delighted that the project became a reality under his leadership, being an indigene of the area.

Adamu, who holds the title of Galadiman Kazaure as well as the District Head of Roni, said the provision of clean water, hygiene and sanitation; education and economic development run top priority of President Muhammad Buhari’s administration.

He said the Kazaure water project is one of the numerous water interventions, including 302 water points, executed by federal government in Jigawa State.

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar commended the federal government for executing the project and other related interventions, which made it possible for the state to rank 92 percent in the provision of clean water, and second among the states of the federation, coming after Lagos.
