Court jails 3 for cybercrime

Afederal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday convicted three people for cybercrime otherwise known as ‘yahoo-yahoo.’

They were dragged before Justice Mohammed Sanni of the Federal High by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The convicts include Ojo David Oluwatosin, 27; Oreoluwa Ayub, 17 and Adetoyi Sodiq, 25, all charged on one count each.

The trio were arrested in AdoEkiti and arraigned on separate counts on July 16, 2021. They pleaded guilty to their charges.

But upon conviction yesterday, they were sentenced to six months’ imprisonme­nt each to serve as a deterrent to others.

Following their guilty pleas, the facts of the cases were reviewed with counsel to the EFCC, Andrew Akoja, leading prosecutio­n witnesses who are operatives of the Commission in evidence.

Incriminat­ing documents including confession­al statements of each suspect were tendered and admitted in evidence by the court.
