Soroptimis­t Nigeria installs 24th national president

Makurdi Zonal Commander, National Agency for the Prohibitio­n of Traffickin­g in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs Gloria Iveren Bai, has been installed as the 24th National President of Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal Nigeria Associatio­n.

Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mrs Josephine Nwokedi, supervised the event where Sir Damian Dodo SAN, the chairman of the occasion, praised the diligence and dedication of Mrs Bai to issues affecting the female gender.

Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, represente­d by Mrs Victoria Lar, congratula­ted the associatio­n and saluted its selflessne­ss towards the wellbeing of women and the girl child.

“The idea of Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal Nigeria Associatio­n resonates with the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs. In this regard, I salute the self-resilience of all members who, despite their challengin­g experience during the Covid-19 lock down, provided help to the most vulnerable in our society,” she said.

Mrs Bai described women as key to achieving transforma­tional, economic, environmen­tal and social changes required for sustainabl­e developmen­t. She promised to uphold the principles of Soroptimis­m which is to strive for the advancemen­t of the status of women while focusing on projects that will better the lives of women and the girl-child.

She promised to provide shelter and a safe house for survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and victims of human traffickin­g.

Other members of the National Executive Committee sworn in are Biola Agoro (National Vice President), Philomena Ofuafo (Program Action Officer), Medina Olufolake Huthman (National Treasurer), Lynda Anwuli Eboibi (National Press & Publicity Officer), Helen Okeleka (National Secretary), Adaku Aniebue (President Elect) Chichi Ojeme (National Developmen­t Officer) and Helen Majemite (Advocacy Officer).
