Elections: Do not test strength of police, DIG warns

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Department of Training and Development, Hafiz Inuwa, has warned miscreants and political thugs not to test the strength of the police during the general elections.

“Whoever dares our strength should be ready for the consequence of doing so. It is not a threat. It is a truism. It is a message from the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

The DIG, who gave the warning yesterday while meeting with stakeholders in Katsina, said doing so would attract dire consequences.

Inuwa, who is in charge of supervision of security arrangements for the elections in the North West zone, added that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, also urged residents of the state to cooperate with security operatives in ensuring peaceful general elections.

“Our president has assured the whole world of his commitment to hand over power to whom God chooses for the country in the election. All of us have that responsibility to support him by ensuring peaceful general elections.

“The police and other sister security agencies are good to go. We are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful election. If anybody tries to foment trouble, the full wrath of the law would be brought to bear on him.

“I will also assure the electorates of their safety so they should come out to perform their civic responsibility,” he said.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf, assured residents of the state of adequate protection during and after the elections.
