We’ll unseat Gov SanwoOlu, Labour Party boasts

- Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos

The director-general of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Akin Osuntokun, yesterday said the Labour Party (LP) would improve on its performance in the presidential election in Lagos ahead of the March 18 governorship election, saying the party would defeat the incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He described as desperation, the claim by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), that the LP candidate, Gbadebo RhodesVivour, is not a Yoruba man and the Igbo were out to take over the state.

Osuntokun spoke with newsmen in Lagos during a youth rally tagged, “Youth O’Clock Breakfast Meeting with Peter Obi and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.”

It would be recalled that the LP defeated the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win Lagos in the presidential election.

Our correspondent reports that Lagos has become one of the major states of attraction ahead of the election as the LP and PDP separately vowed to unseat the governor.

The Obi-Datti Campaign director-general condemned the ethnic dimension being introduced into the race, disclosing that more Yoruba voted for Peter Obi than Igbo people in Lagos.

Responding to the claim that the LP candidate is not a Yoruba man, he said, “When you are dealing with desperadoes, those are the kinds of things you hear. Those who are saying that are frightened because they know they lost in Lagos by a wide margin, which is embarrassing to them. I am not surprised that they have resorted to demonisation. This is a way of desperadoes.

“Labour Party would not only repeat its victory in the governorship election, it would improve on it. The way the votes have been mutilated has made people very angry and radicalised with the position they have taken.”
