Nigerians woke up last Wednesday, February 26 morning to the shocking news of the massacre of, at least, 29 students of the Federal Government College, Boni Yadi, Yobe State by Boko Haram insurgents. The attackers stormed the school in the early hours of Tuesday and set a locked dormitory on fire. When the terrified students tried escaping through the windows, the insurgents began shooting them. The killers also slit the throats of some unfortunate students. In the raging inferno, many students were burnt to ashes. Nigerians have been reacting angrily to the killings, urging the authorities to put an end to bloodshed in the country. The social media became heavily built with traffic as people used that as a means to bare their minds on how they felt about the incident. New Media follows the flow: The Borno State governor meant well when he said that the insurgents are better armed than our military forces. They are not better armed than our security personnel. The only thing our security forces have to do is concentrate more on the area of intelligence gathering. Our uniformed men and women are doing their best and it is paying off.

What horrible act and barbarism unleashed yet again! I don’t believe these killers are spirits...and they are not as invisible as they appear to the government and to security forces. They live and move among human settlements. This is not the first time a school has been hit this way. Let’s leave sentiments out of these senseless killings, and let the truth be said. This problem will have a solution. The truth is that we live in lies in this nation; nobody is telling the truth. Let the leaders tell the truth; the pain of the north is the pain of the east, south and west. How can those innocent children be killed in cold blood like goats, and we are talking about religion and politics? The federal government should declare full military option in these areas already under emergency rule. With this, democratic framework will give way to military rulership in the interim. This is a contingency approach desired to make headway in a state of lawlessness. Lord have mercy. Can someone please tell this people that there is no benefit in bloodshed? They should know that if there was any benefit attached, their mothers would have aborted them before they ever thought of coming into this world to kill innocent people. Boko Haram should stop this bloodshed. From the comments above, Nigerians are really unhappy with the recent spate of killings. One would wonder what young innocent children have to do with the issues between the Federal Government and Boko Haram. Following the latest attack in Yobe, the federal government has taken a decision to improve security around federal unity colleges.
