Zazzau emir turbans Yero as Dallatun Zazzau

- From Isa Sa’idu, Zaria

The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, yesterday turbaned Kaduna state governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero, as the new Dallatun Zazzau, a traditional title given to prominent and selected citizens of the emirate.

The ceremony took place at the emir’s palace with thousands of well-wishers, including the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, state governors and other prominent personalities in attendance.

As Zazzau emirate’s tradition demands, Yero was formally crowned Dallatun Zazzau when some councilors of the emir wrapped his head with a large turban, symbolising his formal assumption of office as one of the kingmakers of the emirate and a member of the emir’s kitchen cabinet.

With yesterday’s event, Yero became the 18th Dallatu of Zazzau.

Usually, according to Salanken Zazzau, Dr. Bello Abdulqadir, the title of Dallatu is reserved for the princes of Zazzau.

“It can also be given to someone who the emir trusts, as well as those indigenes that have dedicated themselves to the service of the people.

Alhaji Muktar Yero has those qualities. His father is the Turakin Dawakin Zazzau, by this he is a prince. He has also demonstrated his capacities in the areas of human development, as well as the development of Kaduna state and the Zazzau emirate. The title is also meant to encourage the governor to do more for his people, state and the nation,” Dr. Abdulkadir said.

The emir, in his address, said the decision to crown Yero with the Dallatu title stemmed from “the governor’s leadership qualities” that have manifested even before he became governor of Kaduna state.

In his speech, Yero described the title of Dallatu as one of the goods things that Allah has done for him, promising to do more for the growth and development of the emirate and the state.
