Kano ASUP joins poly strike

- From Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

The Kano State Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) yesterday announced that it had finally resolved to join the nine months prolonged strike action embarked upon by ASUP.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the state chapter chairman Comrade Ibrahim Garba and its General Secretary Comrade Aliyu Muhammad Sani.

The statement stated that the state chapter had initially eluded being part of the strike action, hoping that the federal government would consider the demands of the Union for the sake of educational prospect in the nation.

The statement said it watched the nonchalant attitude of the federal government in addressing the pressing issues of the Union, stressing that “in view of this, the state chapter has deemed it right to join the nationwide ASUP strike on 28 of this month.

“It is indeed disheartening the federal government attitude towards the Union’s demands as Nigerians. Therefore, ASUP Kano state chapter based on the mandate given to it is hereby joining the nationwide ASUP strike in support of the Union’s struggle for actualizing the demands of its members starting from Monday 28th April 2014,” said the statement.

The statement also urged all members to abide by the declaration and prayed for the success of the strike action.
