Daramola’s murder: I did not exonerate Fayose – Ekiti Monarch

- From Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti

The traditional ruler of Ijan Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Government of Ekiti State, Oba Oyewole Fadahunsi, has said that the gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in the June 21 governorship election, Mr Ayo Fayose, has explanations to offer the people of the State on the gruesome murder of Dr Ayodeji Daramola in 2006.

Daramola, who hailed from Ijan, was a gubernatorial aspirant of the PDP in the 2007 governorship election in Ekiti. But the election did not hold because of the declaration of state of emergency by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The traditional ruler said as the security officer of the State at that time, the former governor should explain to his community and the entire state why the former World Bank consultant was brutally murdered.

Daramola was killed by suspected assassins in his Ijan Ekiti country home on August 14, 2006 during the Fayose-led government.

The monarch made the statement in Ado Ekiti yesterday while responding to a media report that he had absolved the former governor of complicity in the assassination of the former PDP aspirant.

Oba Fadahunsi lamented the politicization of Daramola’s death by political parties in their struggle for the June election, describing the assassination of the former World Bank Consultant as a colossal loss to the people of his community and the State in general.
