Sultan’s younger brother emerges APC chair in Sokoto
Younger brother of the Sultan, Bala Abubakar, was yesterday elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State. Abubakar emerged through a consensus arrangement which was later ratified by 1,620 delegates from the 23 local government areas. Other state’s officials of the party also emerged through consensus.
Alhaji Usman Danmadami, Alhaji Aminu ACY, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu and Alhaji Muktari Bello Maigona emerged deputy chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Other leaders of the party include, Mannir Muhammed, Legal Adviser, Alhaji Kabiru Hali, Vice Chairman, Sokoto Central, Alhaji Sani Mai’eka, Vice Chairman, Sokoto-East, Alhaji Abubakar Danlawan, Vice Chairman, SokotoSouth and Alhaji Abbas Ahmed Gandu, Financial Secretary.
Alhaji Nasiru Italy and Hajia Fatima Kangiwa emerged Youth and Women Leaders respectively.
In his remarks after the congress which held at the Giginya stadium, Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, commended the interim leadership for steadfastness in the face of rigours and challenges they encountered in the cause of performing their duties in the last three months.
Wamakko said he was optimistic that from the look of things and level of its acceptance in the country, APC would form the next federal government. “I am confident that APC is the party which Nigerians are yearning for,”he said.
In his acceptance speech, the State APC Chairman expressed gratitude to the people of the State, particularly the party supporters, assuring that he and his fellow party officials would work to justify the confidence reposed on them.
Abubakar, who is currently the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, however, solicited for prayers from their supporters to enable them succeed.
