Re: Jonathan to Nyako: Your memo senseless, unpatriotic

-

How Adamawa landed Nyako, a joker like him, beats me. To think this was once a service chief; no wonder we have the kind of misery we have today. So sad! Ndanusa, davidakuboh@ gmail.com

Was Jonathan elected as the President by only people of his region in Nigeria? Why is it that any time Jonathan is attacked by a single northerner, some people use that to attack the whole north? Nobody can be the president of this country by only the votes of his ethnicity.

Can’t we learn from the mistakes of the past?

Jonathan and his men like Doyin Okupe will soon account for the unhealthy situation in the North East. Every right thinking Nigerian knows that the FGN is behind this genocide, which will end with complete marginalization of the North, just like what is happening in Cameroon.

Nyako was accusing FG of conspiracy in the issue of insurgency; he was not accusing any section of the country. Every right thinking person can sense government’s conspiracy in this issue. Government at the top must take the blame irrespective of who is there. The victim-states are under emergency rule yet the perpetrators move in comfort of convoy of new Hilux cars and carry out their acts; sometimes in army uniform, what a conspiracy. You can’t rule out government hands on this.

Un-presidential language! Perhaps Nyako may have embellished his story but the language in the response is impolitic; after all, it was the president who started the ball by declaring “I will withdraw the troops from the North East and..” which was wrong. This Boko Haram issue has been unnecessarily politicized and the presidency is largely to blame for allowing loud-mouthed spokesmen to turn the issue into an ethnic/regional crisis which clearly it wasn’t. Boko Haram was badly mishandled when the incumbent assumed the presidency. Instead of standing back and looking at the issue, he allowed the presidency to become a part of the problem which for now has become a cancer to the civil society.

If Mr. Nyako’s statements are senseless, then let the president expose those behind the killings; is it too much to ask for? You came to America and tell opposition party not to discuss the security problem of the country in USA but you people will come to USA to seek for the support of Mr. GEJ and lie on everything about what is happening in the country.

Even, if one cannot impregnate one’s wife, Jonathan will be held responsible. Nyako has not impressed anyone because we do not expect him to be fair to Jonathan, having been one of the desperate governors who have drawn battle line against the President. If Nyako is a serious northern governor, why did he allow Jonathan to execute genocide in his environment? Nyako and his northern counterparts have failed their people and rather than accept this simple fact, they begin to chase shadow, looking for imaginary culprit to hang.

This politics of blame and counter-blame among those entrusted with protection of life and property of the north will not augur well for peace and tranquility of the region. The northern leaders should concentrate their time and energy in moving their region forward instead of always looking for scapegoat to hang their inefficiencies on. Is the president also responsible for lack of development in the north and the conglomeration of hapless Almajirai in the region? For how long shall we continue to blame others for our woes?

Okupe, or whatever you call yourself, Nyako is right and every right-thinking Northerner has been thinking along these lines. You can never change that. Remember nemesis!

The presidency is not the birthright of any tribe, religion or party. The right people should be allowed to rule. But I guess this is very difficult for some set of people to understand. No matter how much you try to cover the truth with dirt, it will remain the truth. The people behind Boko Haram know themselves and God knows them. They are not above death; for that, I thank God. No matter how much you insult your president, you cannot force God to punish him if he is innocent. If he is guilty, you cannot stop God from punishing him. Let’s us pray for our country and stop trading insults.
