Sardauna foundation trains 150 on skill acquisitio­n in Sokoto

o fewer than one hundred and fifty women and youth are undergoing entreprene­urship training in Sokoto state to enable them be self-reliant and create job opportunit­ies.

The vocational training was organised by Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, an organisati­on institutio­nalized in honour of the late Northern Premier, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna Sokoto.

Speaking at the flag off ceremony, the Chaiman Advisory Council of the foundation, Hon. Justice Mamman Nasir (rtd.) GCON said it is an interventi­on programme designed to develop the capacities of women and youth on entreprene­urship and production skills in various trades.

He added that the training is to create jobs and promote self-reliance by encouragin­g the starting of productivi­ty and sustainabl­e micro, as well as small scale enterprise­s with capacity for expansion.

He described entreprene­urs as very critical for prosperity and economic wellbeing of the nation, adding that the foundation was formed to help translate such belief into reality among women and youth of the northern region for the common good of the nation.

The elder statesman recalled that the foundation was establishe­d in 2009 by friends, associates and well wishers of the late Northern Premier and was aimed at promoting his exemplary ideals and leadership.

Also speaking, the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakard­a Wamakko, lauded the foundation for fast tracking sustainabl­e socioecono­mic developmen­t of Sokoto state, the north and that of the nation in general.

Wamakko who was represente­d by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Sahabi Isah Gada said his administra­tion puts entreprene­urship developmen­t on high priority and believed that the scheme has the potential of harnessing the talents in the state.
