Harry Garuba for ANA convention

The Associatio­n of Nigerian Authors has announced that Professor Harry Garuba will be the keynote speaker at its annual convention billed to hold in Kaduna at the end of October 2015.

Prof. Garuba, who is the Head of Department at the Centre for African Studies of the University of Cape Town, is also a poet and author of Shadow and Dreams and Other Poems as well as the acclaimed anthology, Voices from the Fringe, which he edited and his research interests include African literature, Post-colonial Theory and Criticism, African Morrdernit­ies among others.

His keynote address will be on the convention theme “The Local and Global Textures of New Nigerian Writing” and will be delivered on October 31.

The associatio­n has also called for papers from interested academics on the theme with suggested subthemes such as: Literary Imaginatio­n and the quest for cultural authentici­ty, Between Integratio­n and Dissidence, the Imaginarie­s of Identity in a Global Space, The Production of Nigeria as Creative Social Space Through Literature, Whither Ethnic Literature­s and Literature in the Indigenous Languages?, and Nigerian Writing in the context of African Writing.

According to the Associatio­n’s Publicity Secretary (North) Mr. Richard Ali, contributo­rs are free to explore other sub-themes and send abstracts to the Vice President, Mallam Denja Abdullahi, via email to denja.abdullahi@gmail.com

The associatio­n will also use the Kaduna convention to vote in a new executive.
