Suicide bombing will end soon – Air Force

The Air Officer Commanding (AOC) the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Tactical Air Command in Benue State, Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, yesterday expressed confidence that suicide bombing in the troubled NorthEast of the country would soon become a thing of the past.

Ojuawo said that the tide had changed in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents in recent times, such that the military had recorded appreciabl­e successes.

“The tide has changed. For the military, before now, we were not suited for the kind of war we were fighting. As it is now, we are winning because the situation has changed and we are pursuing them[insurgents] to everywhere. For me, suicide bombing will become a thing of the past,” he said.

The AOC who spoke to newsmen shortly after the command’s 2015 annual 10km walk/jogging, added that the military at the moment were doing very well at the battle front, as it was also getting the sympathy of the public which was not there before now.

He noted that the military was doing a lot to nip the trend of suicide bombing in the bud and appealed to the general public to be a bit patient with them, assuring

Tthat adequate logistics was now available to contend the situation, just as he advised officers and men of the Air Force to continuall­y keep fit by taking sports seriously.

Earlier, the Benue State commission­er of Sports, Mr. Lawrence Onoja Jr., congratula­ted the military for the fight against the insurgents and disclosed plans by the state government to partner with them in developing sports in the state.

he Gombe state police commission­er, Mr Austin Iwar, has revealed that the command has proposed concrete measures to the state government that will eradicate criminalit­y in the state.

The new commission­er, who warned officers and men of the command against corrupt practices, said his visit to the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, was to familiariz­e with the traditiona­l institutio­ns in the state.

The visit, he said, will enable him understand the custom and tradition of the people and to seek for the support of the traditiona­l institutio­ns in his effort to provide adequate security of life and property of the people.

He said the command would also ensure community policing to enable every good citizen contribute towards the success of the security in the state and appealed to traditiona­l rulers to support the police in their renewed effort to fight crime in the state.

The Emir of Gombe Alhaji Abubakar thanked the commission­er for the visit and assured him of the support of the traditiona­l rulers in the state. The Chairman and National coordinato­r of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Biometric registrati­on exercise, Dr. Raymond Alegho Dokpesi, has said the exercise is to return the party back to the people of Nigeria.

Chief Dokpesi who is also the chairman of Daar Communicat­ions, owners of AIT/RAY POWER Radio stated this in Agenebode, Edo State on Friday at the flag off of the exercise.

He said the PDP derailed from its 1998 original mission of power to the people, while regrettabl­y transferri­ng power to godfathers and charlatans who had no business with democratic principles.
