Fresh off the press: New Nigerian books hit bookshops
Pius Adesanmi’s Carry Last berths
One of Nigeria’s foremost public intellectuals speaker and commentator, Pius Adesanmi’s third book, Naija No Dey Carry: Thoughts on a Nation in Progress has just hit the bookshelves from the stable of Lagos-based Parresia Publishers.
The book is a collection of forty essays Adesanmi had published in his columns with Premium Times, SaharaReporters and Nigeria Village Square and are delivered with the candour and humour that have become the trademarks of the Canadabased Professor of Literature and African Studies.
The book is split into four uneven parts titled ‘Naija no dey Carry Last’, ‘In the Beginning was the Word’, ‘Open Letters to Godots’ and ‘All the World’s a Stage’.
Already, the book has been generating a lot of buzz and has been flying off the shelves due to Adesanmi’s popularity among readers.
His book, Africa is not a Country won the inaugural Penguin Prize for Africa in the non-fiction category in 2010. His first book, The Wayfare and Other Poems won the Association of Nigerian Authors Poetry Prize in 2001.
He teaches at Carlton University, Ottawa Canada and often travels the world to deliver lectures and talks.
