Power supply restored to Maiduguri
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) said it has restored electricity supply to Maiduguri, Borno State capital. The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Umara Mustapha disclosed the development in a press release signed by the Senior Corporate Communications Officer, Kingsley Nkemneme.
Large parts of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe have been without electricity for more than a year since the escalation of Boko Haram attacks in the area.
The statement noted that following successful military operation in the North-East, the company has started fixing equipment destroyed by the insurgents in its catchment areas.
In addition to Maiduguri, the company had earlier announced restoration of electricity to Mubi, Gombi and Hong in Adamawa State, which were liberated by Nigerian soldiers.
It added that “within three months of this administration, the perennial low voltage in Wukari has been addressed and very soon other parts of the region facing similar challenges will soon have relief.”
The management, however, appealed for support from the staff as well as the general public to sustain the current performance that guarantees 12 to 18 hours supply of electricity to consumers.
It could be recalled that the management had recently announced that it lacked the capacity to replace destroyed installation in places like Bama and Gwoza were the damage was extensive, calling for federal government’s support.
