President Muhammadu Buhari says he received with immense sadness, the news of the death of Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Dideolu Awolowo.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Desina, said in a statement yesterday that Buhari, on behalf of the Federal Government and Nigerians, commiserated with the children, grandchildren and great grand children of the “Jewel of Inestimable Value” on the death of their famed matriarch, just a few weeks before her 100th birthday.

President Buhari also commiserated with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who is an in-law of the Awolowos, over the passage of the matriarch. Mrs Dolapo, the VicePresident’s wife is a granddaughter of the late Mrs HID Awolowo.

Mr Adesina said the president joined the Awolowos and millions of admirers of her late, revered husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in mourning Mrs. Awolowo who will be long remembered and celebrated as the famous spouse and pillar of strength of the late nationalist, political leader and sage.

He said President Buhari believed that the late HID Awolowo would always be honoured for the indelible legacy of very significant, behind-the-scene contributions to communal, state, regional and national development which she had left behind.

He said the president prayed that God would comfort the bereaved family, relatives, friends, associates and admirers, and grant them the fortitude to bear her irreparable loss.

According to Mr Adesina, President Buhari also prayed that the Almighty would receive the late matriarch’s worthy soul and grant her eternal rest from her long, earthly service to her renowned spouse, family, community and country.
