PDP govs responsible for failed national convention – Edo Rep

- By Musa Abdullahi Krishi

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be blamed for the botched national convention of the party, a member of the party in the House of Representatives, Johnson Agbonayinma, said.

The lawmaker said in a statement yesterday that the factional leaders of the party who accused the federal government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using the power of incumbency to halt the convention were only being hypocritical.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had alleged that the police and some men of the Department of State Services (DSS) were used by the APC-led government to halt the convention.

But the lawmaker, who represents Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency of Edo State, said, “it is outrageous to push the very problems we created by ourselves on others. The APC has its problems but, on the impunity in our party, PDP, we shouldn’t blame the APC led federal government.

“Get it right, APC is not on trial in this matter. The blame should be directed at some emperor governors in our party who are out to hijack the party for their selfish interests,” he said.

He said the security operatives should be commended for “their prompt action of sealing off the venue of the botched convention to prevent impunity and break down of law and order”.

He said rather than encouraging unity and harmony in the party, some individuals within the party were hell-bent on bringing it down through their actions.
