Kano emirate inaugurate­s 7,664 health c’ttees

The Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi ll, yesterday inaugurate­d 7,664 committees called Kano Emirate Council Committees on Health (KECCOH) with a view to facilitati­ng healthcare delivery at local and ward levels in the state.

Speaking at the inaugurati­on of the committees in Kura Local Government Area of the state, Sanusi said the emirate set up the committee to support the federal and state government­s in the fight against polio and other related diseases.

Emir Sanusi said the emirate council takes the fight against child killer diseases seriously.

He said the main duty of the committees was to enlighten the people on the importance of routine immunizati­on, ante-natal, post-natal, child and maternal death among other issues related to health.

“It is part of our duties as leaders to improve the health condition of subjects at all levels. We introduced the committees just to help government achieve its goals in the health sector. All district heads, village heads and ward heads would be incorporat­ed into the committee so that our people would be enlightene­d on every health activity, especially the routine immunizati­on,” he said.

In his speech, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represente­d by the state Commission­er of Health, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim Getso, said the present administra­tion was committed to the improvemen­t of the heath sector.

He said government recently earmarked over N300 million for equipping 137 hospitals with modern health facilities.

The governor urged members of the committee to be committed to their duties.
