Eugenia Abu, Nwaubani headline Treasured Writers boot camp

Ace broadcaste­r and writer, Eugenia Abu and novelist, Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani will headline the 2016 Treasured Writers Boot Camp holding in Abuja between August 22 and 27th, 2016.

The writing workshop for children between the ages of 7-14, now in its 9th year, has its 2016 theme as: ‘The Symphony of the senses’ and include the sub-themes: ‘Media and Dance’, ‘Charity and storytelli­ng’; ‘Nature’ and money management.

Mrs Abu is the initiator of the annual writing boot camp, while Nwaubani, the guest author for this year’s edition, a two timer on TTW, is winner of the Commonweal­th 2010 Best First Book Prize.

Some of the issues that will be discussed at the camp will include empathizin­g with children at IDP camps, appreciati­ng the five senses, the environmen­t, managing money at a young age and how to be leaders.

In the past, TTW has hosted Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, Caine Prize shortliste­d writers, Elnathan John and Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, NLNG shortliste­d writer, Chinyere Obi-Obasi, The Guardian cartoonist, Obe-ess, ace comedians, MC Amana and Dr. Ayuba, leading literary journalist, Henry Akubuiro and the Reigning Future Awards Winner for the journalist of the year, Alkassim Abdulkadir. Other guests have included the Managing Editor of the Daily Trust, Mr. Theophilus Abah and the late broadcaste­r, Alice Akale.

Other events lined up for the boot camp include election of the next TTW Ambassador, surprise guest appearance­s and an art book cover competitio­n.

The workshop, which will be opened at the Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, Monday August 22, will be concluded on Saturday, August 27, with a party and prizes for the best writers and the best behaved participan­ts.
