Corps mobilisation: Senate c’ttee harps on funding
The Senate Committee on Youth and Sports Development has stressed the need for adequate budgetary provisions to enable the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilize all eligible graduates for national service.
In a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations Department of the scheme, Mrs Abosede Aderigbibe, the submission was made when the committee visited the scheme’s management in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairman of the committee, Senator Obinna Ogba, said it was not okay to make graduates wait longer than necessary before they are mobilized as it could be frustrate them and lead to other unpleasant consequences.
He said the lawmakers were ready to lend their support to the scheme to tackle challenges being experienced as a result of budgetary constraints.
According to him, the visit was to assess the state of affairs in the scheme, especially the level of implementation of the 2016 budget as well as the shortfall and constraints being faced.
According to the statement, the Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier General Suleman Kazaure, briefed the committee on the level of preparations for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ orientation course, the constraint being faced and the strategies being adopted towards
ensuring a hitch-free exercise.
