Truck Crushes Mother, Child in Kogi

There was pandemonium yesterday in Obajana community of Kogi State, following the killing of a woman and her child by a truck.

A witness told Daily Trust on Sunday that a woman and her child were crossing the road around Obajana market when a truck which was coming from the Lokoja axis crushed them to death.

It was learnt that following the incident, the truck driver escaped while angry youths in the area went berserk vandalizing the truck before setting it ablaze.

“A truck was coming from Lokoja into Obajana town and at the Obajana market point, it crushed a woman who was about to cross the road with a baby.

“Angry youths set the truck ablaze. As I speak with you, there is tension in Obajana. People are running helter skelter”, a witness said.

He said the angry youths and relatives of the deceased had earlier resisted the evacuation of the bodies from the road but later obliged following an agreement reached with the owners of the truck.

When contacted, Kogi State Police Commissioner, Mr Abdullahi Chafe, who confirmed the incident said the situation had been brought under control.

“As I speak, I’m right now in Obajana and the matter is under control. I’m even about to return to Lokoja. Everything is under control by the grace of God. The area is calm right now”, he said.
