From Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

The Sultan of Sokoto and President, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on state governors to give priority to job creation and empowerment of youths in order to end the menace of restiveness and crime.

Sultan Abubakar made the call in Lokoja while inaugurating the Kogi State Revenue House built by the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello.

He said when youths are fully engaged in meaningful ventures, they cannot be used as tools for perpetrating violence and other heinous crimes in the society.

“It is important for governors at all levels to source funds in order to engage youths in meaningful development purposes instead of waiting for little stipends to come to them. Get them decent jobs to do individually so that they will be taken away from issues that will make them go into crimes”, he said.

The Sultan, who commended the governor for “striving hard to bring development to the people in the face of economic recession and dwindling resources’, urged the people of Kogi to give their support to enable the governor succeed. He prayed for a successful tenure for the governor and for peace among the people of Kogi, Nigeria and the world.

Governor Yahaya Bello, who thanked the Sultan and other dignitaries for their support, assured the people of more development in the remaining years of his administration.

“We have continued to flag off new projects all over the state. In the past one week alone, I have been to Kogi East, Kogi West and Kogi Central to flag off ceremonies in commemoration of this one year anniversary.

“Key infrastructural projects that are ongoing include 15 roads, 17 motorized rural water schemes and about 10 electricity projects”, Bello said.
