Siasia backs Ighalo to regain scoring touch

- By Mansur Abubakar

Former Super Eagles Coach Samson Siasia says he couldn’t help but feel sorry for struggling Super Eagles striker Jude Odion Ighalo who is undergoing a barren spell in front of goal with English Premier League side Watford after lighting up the EPL with goals last season.

The 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medal winning gaffer in a chat with Fever Pitch yesterday, added that it’s important for the player to keep believing in himself and also to continue working hard in order to regain his form, believing that a move away from Watford wouldn’t necessary bring back the goals for Ighalo.

“He’s a massive player and I feel for him regarding what’s happening at the moment but that’s life sometimes things keep clicking for you other times they don’t. It’s important that he keeps believes in himself and before you know it, the situation will come to past.” Siasia noted.

Unlike last season when Ighalo was on fire in terms of contributions to Watford FC with his 16 goals and four assists leading them to a comfortable finish in the English top flight, the player has only netted one goal in 18 appearances this term which is a far cry from his past exploits.

Meanwhile, Watford are reportedly asking several Chinese clubs for a fee of 25 million pounds for the former Udinese hit man.

A top source informed AfricanFootball.com that this week Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua, who have already made Carlos Tevez the highest earner in world football, tabled a 15 million pounds bid for the striker.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri himself confirmed at Friday evening press conference that the club has received a number of offers for Ighalo.

“There is more than one offer (for Ighalo) and it might be from China,” he disclosed while refusing to divulge more details. Last year, Ighalo twice rejected “crazy money” to move to China.
