Ayala Polo Team, La Indiana for Santa Maria Polo Club Gold Cup final

After two exciting semifinals, Ayala Polo Team and La Indiana qualified for the final of the Santa Maria Polo High Goal Gold Cup, the most important trophy of the 46th Internatio­nal Polo Tournament.

Ayala Polo Team defeated Dubai Polo Team by 8 goals to 7 and La Indiana did the same against Lechuza Caracas by 11 goals to 10. The tight victories by both teams clearly show how even the matches were.

In the first semifinal of the day, Ayala Polo Team suffered until the end to leave the last champion of the Gold Cup out of the way.

And the second semifinal also had a great deal of excitement with Lechuza Caracas playing better in the first half and La Indiana, after a great comeback in the final three chukkers, achieving an exciting victory.

Ayala Polo Team and La Indiana will be face to face for the Santa María Gold Cup next Sunday from 6 pm at Los Pinos field 3.

Speaking ahead of the final, Facundo Pieres of Ayala Polo Team said: “It was a very tight match, the score clearly shows how even it was. It was a long suffered match since the very beginning. Luckily we were able to make a difference in the last chukker and that was key for the final victory”.

On his part, Agustín Merlos of La Indiana said: “We played very well, with a lot of heart, a perfect teamwork and the horses in great shape. We knew we had to be at 100% because Lechuza Caracas is a great team and hopefully we managed to do ti. Today we played as we always do, adding a lot of attitude, order and the horses responding in great shape”.
