Bride, stepson, 5 others die in Yobe auto crash

Abride, her three-year-old stepson and five others were killed yesterday in an auto crash which occurred along the Gashua - Yunusari road in Yobe State.

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the incident, which involved three vehicles; a Volkswagen Gulf, an articulate­d truck and a ‘Zul’ Sahara truck occurred around 11:30am.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Yobe State command, DSP Zubairu Jafiya, confirmed that seven people died on the spot while 14 others sustained various degrees of injury.

“One of the seven people that died is a newly wedded bride who was travelling with her step son to visit her parents,” he said.

Our correspond­ent learnt that the Volkswagen Gulf driver who was on speed ran into the moving truck while trying to overtake the trailer.

“The Volkswagen Gulf driver, who was over speeding lost control while trying to overtake the trailer and rammed into the ‘Zul’ truck. Seven people died on the spot. We took 14 persons to the hospital in Gashua,” a witness, Muhammad Hausari, said.

A nurse at the Gashua General Hospital, Yahya Sa’idu, said the 14 persons who sustained various degrees of injury are currently receiving treatment.

“We have treated eight people while the remaining four that were critically injured have been referred to Federal Medical Centre, Nguru,” he said.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of Bade Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagana, said the deceased have been buried.
