Division deepens in South-West PDP over chairmanship
The race for the chairmanship of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is unsettling the SouthWest geopolitical zone, following the multiplicity of aspirants from the area, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered.
There are fears the zone may lose out as no fewer than four chieftains have indicated interest in the race.
The latest entrant is the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos in the 2015 elections, Mr Jimi Agbaje, who may formally make a public declaration any moment from now.
When asked about his aspiration, Agbaje simply said, “I am working on it. You will surely be informed.”
He met with Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in Lagos last week to intimate him of his decision, it was gathered. However, his decision is unsettling the camp of Chief Olabode George, the former Deputy Chairman of the party, who has since declared his aspiration.
It would be recalled that Agbaje also slugged it out with George in the botched convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Other aspirants from the zone include a former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, former Minister of Education, Prof Tunde Adeniran and a former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Prof Taofiq Adedoja.
Working at cross purposes, there are apprehensions that the zone may lose out in the race to other zones in the south especially the South-South geopolitical zone where two aspirants - Uche Secondus, the immediate past Deputy Chairman and Founder of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi - have already indicated interest.
