- By Maureen Onochie

Ahealth management organization in Nigeria, Avon, has pledged its commitment towards promoting healthy living among Nigerians. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Adesimbo Ukiri, made the pledge while announcing the commencement of the second edition of its advocacy radio programme, Practical Tools For Healthy Living, which airs at 5.15pm every Thursday on Smooth 98.1 FM, Lagos. According to Ukiri, Practical Tools For Healthy Living, is a platform for awareness as well as to demystify the seemingly complex health issues that Nigerians often contend with in their day-to-day living. She added that feedback from the first season shows that the programme has been able to fill the gap in providing credible health education that people can readily apply to enhance their lifestyles. Ukiri continued: “Our business demands that we have regular engagements with stakeholders across the healthcare spectrum and what we have observed is that there is clearly a lack of awareness and understanding about simple everyday choices people can make to improve their overall wellness.” “We introduced the programme to bridge the knowledge gap and breakdown some of the knotty issues that act as impediments to people’s grasping of health matters. This is because we believe that information is key to achieving a healthy populace and so we are leveraging the program to achieve this objective,” she added. She further stated: “Avon’s key thrust is to go beyond the traditional HMO model of merely offering health insurance in exchange for premiums. Rather, what we operate is a managed healthcare model whereby we try to empower people with a total wellness package so that they can live healthier and fuller lives. We are excited to present the second season of the programme to our radio audience who have told us that they are eager to have us back on the airwaves.”
