ABU alumni call for more public varsities
The President of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora, has called for the establishment of more public universities in the country to take care of the large number of Nigerians seeking university admissions.
Professor Mora, who spoke yesterday in Abuja, after the association’s executive council meeting, also called for proper funding of the university system to address infrastructural decay.
He said the association is in full support of any action by the government and its agencies to address cases of students cheating in examinations.
Professor Mora, who was reacting to actions being taken by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) to curb examination malpractice, observed that character was important.
He said it was embarrassing to see children indulging in shameful acts in order to pass examinations.
He commanded President Muhammad Buhari for submitting next year’s budget to the National Assembly on time and pleaded with the lawmakers to work on it accordingly.
He said the association had set up a development committee to see to the completion of its various projects in the university, including the overhead bridges at the institution’s gate and hostel accommodation for post-graduate students.
