Kwara LG polls: Voters guard polling units

The local government election in Kwara State yesterday saw a huge turnout of voters who stood by after casting their votes to monitor events.

Although, the election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere with residents conducting themselves in orderly manner, voting materials arrived late at many polling centres in Ilorin metropolis while majority of the polling units also complained of incomplete ballot papers.

Some polling units in Adewole area of Ilorin finished voting and counted their votes where PDP candidates for both chairman and councillor emerged winners.

The state governor, Alh Abdulfatah Ahmed, cast his vote at Aponbiepo polling centre, Share in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state while the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, voted at Opobiyi, Agbaji polling centre in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state. An All Progressiv­es Congress ( APC) chieftain, Alh Abubakar Kawu Baraje, voted at a polling centre in Baboko in Ilorin West Council.

Saraki expressed satisfacti­on with the turnout of voters for the election and thanked people of the state for their orderlines­s.

He expressed confidence that APC will emerge victorious in the council poll and assured people of the state that the incoming council chairmen would strive to meet their expectatio­ns.

In Offa Local Government Area, the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was disqualifi­ed from participat­ing, leaving only the ruling party (APC) in the election.
