With peace, unity, Nigeria will succeed – Mamman Nasir

- From Maryam Ahmadu-Suka, Kaduna

Aformer President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir has said that Nigeria will succeed if there is peace and unity. Speaking at the 9th Engineer Mahmud Urwatu Armiya’u memorial lecture, organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Kaduna branch yesterday, the Galadiman Katsina, charged engineers on nation building.

He said, “past leaders did not leave wealth for the nation but achievements which is what we are after not how much millions you have, and if you have, how did you make your millions; all of us here must contribute and look at what this particular profession can do in building this nation because Nigeria is a very great nation.

“With all the problems we have come across, Nigeria is still the greatest African nation and that is why I am appealing to all professions to assist the government of the day to do what is good for the nation.

“You cannot build any nation by just talking and forgetting about it, there must be practical honesty, there must be practical security and peace in the society. Where we believe government is wrong, our duty is not to criticize but to tell them what we think should be done.”

The Board of Trustees member of the foundation observed that without engineers, there will be no development.

He quoted the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello as saying, for unity to be achieved, leaders must respect the followers and in return the followers have a very great responsibility to follow the leaders.
