ONLINE Tension in Asaba over plans to dislodge Arewa community
Why are we having so many problems across the country? I pray God to grant this nation peace and help citizens to prosper as well.
What is wrong in rehabilitating that slum? Government will give the people a new place or compensate them. I don’t think the people want to remain in that slum forever. They should see this as an opportunity to get something better from the government. If the reason for the dislodgement is development, then the government should ensure that it provides an alternative for the Arewa community.
I think we all need to tolerate one another as that is the only way we can have peace in this country.
It is unfortunate that we hide under religion and ethnicity to cause one another harm. Nigeria cannot develop under this kind of condition. We need to change for the better. If the government really needs the land, it should allocate another piece of land to members of the Arewa community. They should also be compensated for the inconveniences.
We should be careful to avoid igniting trouble in other parts of the country.
Unless we abolish the Land Use Act, nobody can stop government from acquiring lands for developmental projects. This type of thing happens in every part of the country and it affects indigenes and settlers. We need peace, so let us avoid anything that will bring problems.
The government should have a discussion with the people of the community and explain to them what is going on. That way, both parties can reach an agreement.
Nigerians should see themselves as one. We should stop segregation in whatever form. Any Nigerian should be free to live in any part of the country without fear of molestation.
Sometimes the government makes decisions that affect the masses negatively. The ruling class should consult widely before taking certain decisions/actions.
There is nothing wrong with the dislodgement if the people will be given an alternative place to stay.
This matter must be looked into and necessary measures should be taken to avoid a crisis.
