Bashir Dalhatu promoted Wazirin Dutse

- By Anthony Maliki

The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji (Dr) Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, has promoted Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Walin Dutse, to the rank of Wazirin Dutse, effective from November 6. The appointment was to fill the vacuum created by the demise of his brother, Air Vice Marshal Mukhtar Mohammed (retired), who died on October 1.

In a statement from the Dutse Emirate Council by Alhaji Basiru Muhammada Sanusi, Galadiman Dutse, made available to Daily Trust on Sunday, Dalhatu’s promotion to the exalted position was based on his leadership qualities.

According to the statement, his choice by the emir and subsequent confirmation by the state government is a reward for hard work, sincerity of purpose, humane disposition, coupled with the zeal to serve humanity, considering his dynamism, tolerance and patience, which are the hallmark of his character.

Born in Dutse, Jigawa State, on November 12, 1949, Dalhatu graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1972 with an LLB degree and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1973.

After a seven-year sojourn in the Kano State civil service, where he worked in the administrative cadre as assistant secretary in both the Ministry of Works and Survey and Ministry of Agriculture, he moved to the Ministry of Justice as state counsel.

In 1978, he won an election into the Constituent Assembly that fashioned out the 1979 Constitution, representing Dutse/ Jahun constituency (in the now Jigawa State). At the conclusion of the assembly he became one of the founding members of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) where, between 1979 and 1983, he was Kano State assistant secretary, state secretary and later, assistant national legal advisor. Alhaji Dalhatu was also the pioneer national secretary of the defunct Action Congress (AC). He served as a member of the 2014 National Conference.
