Champions League: Plateau United to play friendlies in South Africa, Ghana

- From Bashir Liman, Jos

The General Manager of Plateau United Football Club of Jos, Pius Henwan has said that preparations have be ongoing for the club to play international friendlies in South Africa, Ghana and or Ivory Coast.

Henwan who spoke with Daily Trust at Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos yesterday also said that the friendlies would be played in order for the Tin City boys to prepare adequately for forthcoming CAF Champions League.

He explained that the club would register 50 players due to the team’s involvement in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL), Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the Aiteo Cup next season.

The general manager said that some new players have been recruited to fortify the team before the commencement of the 2017/2018 NPFL which kicks off in January.

He noted that the recruitment of the new players became expedient in order to replace the void created by the departure of 12 players who were released at the end of last season due to one reason or the other.

Henwan pointed out that the team will participate in a pre-season tournament in Kano next week where the technical crew will use the tournament to test the newly recruited players by the club.

“Efforts are on for the team to embark on a close camping outside the country where the team is expected to map out plans for their continental campaign by playing some quality friendly matches with some foreign clubs in South Africa, Ghana and or Ivory Coast,” he said.
