they’re the ones cheering me.

When I wake up in the morning, I check my plans for the day because I map out all I need to do after my water therapy. So I go by how I plan my days because my days vary.

During my first wedding anniversary, my husband gave me a pair of gold studded pearl earrings. 37 years later, I still cherish that moment when he handed them to me.

I met his mum before him because he was overseas for a long time. Their house is a walking distance from ours, and some of his brothers lived on our street. She was friends with my mum and one day she said that her son in Canada must marry me. So from then I would hide as soon as I saw her and she would come bearing gifts like fruits and such. My mum would tease me to death about it. But eventually we met and I had not realised that she had been telling him about me. I was in the university and he came with his cousin to spy on me. I was good friends with him and so I was talking with him and there was this guy with him so I asked, “Who is that?” he introduced us, we met, got to know each other and we decided to get married.

It’s his voice: he has a very deep voice and most times when I put my head on his chest, the rumble when he’s speaking, I’ve never felt anything like it before.

I would love to see my daughter and my son get married. I would like more grandchildren. I would love to age gracefully in health, and I also wish my husband to continue ageing gracefully too. Gospel: I love listening to Don Moen. The Olive Tree: my Bible app. I like cut off trousers.

I prefer flats. I never liked stilettos, but even if I’m going to wear heels, then it has to be half an inch. Spaghetti strap sleeves. I like Chicago: I seem to bond well with the city. I play golf: I try to play at least once in the middle of the week. “With God all thing are possible.” I enjoy eating hot boiled yam with pepper. Comfort.

I design what I wear and I make it myself. I started sewing at the age of five.

Poison by Christian Dior. For shoes and bag I don’t have favourite.

Whenever she opens her mouth, she spoke good advice. She used to sing a song for me in Igbo. I could not speak it then as I learnt Igbo as a grown up. She translated it for me. “Irene, you will be what God has destined you for and nothing anyone says can stop you but you have to choose to keep to the will of God for your destiny.”

I love golf. I love blue. For car, I love Lamborghinis: it is such a beautiful and sleek car, and I love autumn: the colours are beautiful.

I’m a Monday person: I look forward to it because after the long weekend, I am well rested and ready for the week.

I do my nails once in a while. I wash my face every night and leave it fresh without applying anything. I don’t really use makeup: just an eye pencil; that’s it. Jesus Christ.

I would tell her not to climb as many trees and not to aim at living on top of a tree. I would also tell her to be less adventurous and a bit more feminine and not to run with the pack: Be yourself at all times no matter the situation or condition. MY HUSBAND HAS A VERY DEEP VOICE AND MOST TIMES WHEN I PUT MY HEAD ON HIS CHEST, THE RUMBLE WHEN HE’S SPEAKING, I’VE NEVER FELT ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE
